For 41 years, Windsor Vineyards has cultivated prime vineyard land in Sonoma County, as you can see on the map
below. Winemaking, above all, is farming, and we're always subject to the whims of Mother Nature and her effect on each one of these vineyards. The year 2000 harvest came early, beginning in early August for Champagne grapes and mid-August for still wines. Although the rains in May did cause some blossom shatter in
Merlot and Sauvignon Blanc, and Zinfandel yields are down slightly, Chardonnay was not affected, and overall crop size is normal. This is a great relief after the small crops of the last two years. The heat wave in June caused some crop sunburn in certain vineyards, but there was no extreme damage.
Overall, grape quality looks good, and expectations are for another great vintage for you to enjoy.
